How Lexi Works
Lexi is a free, experimental tool that explains UK law in plain English. Ask a question, get a straightforward answer about your rights and the practical steps you can take. It is not a lawyer and does not provide legal advice.
1. Ask in plain English
You don't need to know the legal terms or which Act applies. Describe your situation the way you'd explain it to a friend — "my landlord won't return my deposit", "I was let go after 18 months", "I bought a faulty phone". There's no sign-up, and you never have to give personal details to get an answer.
2. Lexi works out the jurisdiction
UK law differs across England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland — and Lexi also handles questions about other countries. It tries to infer the relevant jurisdiction from your question. If it isn't clear, it will simply ask you which country or region your question concerns before answering.
3. You get a plain-language answer
Lexi explains what the law says, sets out your options step by step, and points to official sources — GOV.UK, Citizens Advice, court services and the relevant legislation. Where the position differs across the UK, it flags that too.
4. Know your next step
For everyday matters, that's often all you need. For anything serious — court dates, large sums of money, risk of eviction or criminal proceedings — Lexi will encourage you to speak to a licensed solicitor and will point you toward legal aid and free advice services if cost is a concern.
What Lexi is — and isn't
- It is a plain-English information tool for understanding your rights and the general shape of a legal problem.
- It isn't a law firm, a solicitor, or a substitute for professional legal advice. It cannot form a lawyer-client relationship, guarantee accuracy, or predict how a court will decide your case.
- It won't draft final legal documents for you to rely on, or tell you that you're guaranteed to win.
Your privacy
Lexi does not collect, store or process personal data. Conversations are ephemeral and no identifying information is requested. See the Privacy Policy for more, and the Disclaimer for full terms.
